Petite aparté « French Touch », Squarepusher de son vrai nom Thomas Jenkinson bassiste, batteur et adepte du style IDM, vient de sortir ce mois-ci (14 Mai) sur ‘WARP rec’ son dernier album intitulé « UFABULUM ». Un LP intéressant possédant quelques morceaux aux mélodies mémorables accompagnées de distorsions, cuts, hachures sonores rythmés de Drill’n'Bass, Drum’n'Bass aux influences Jazz. En écoutant ces nouveaux morceaux nous sommes obligé de penser à Aphex Twin ou Plaid pour l’ambiance si particulière de l’univers musical que seul le Label WARP peut nous livrer. A contrario de certains fans étant largement déçus des nouvelles sonorités apportées, nous apprécions vraiment « UFABULUM ». Cet ovni hertzien prend de plus en plus de valeur à chaque écoutes apportées. De plus les photos présentes dans le livret sont d’une grande qualité, un travail de qualité qui en fait un bel objet.

Cependant pour son aspect visuel, la direction artistique a été orientée vers la grande influence du moment, les LEDs. Un phénomène qui ne cesse de se développer depuis quelques années, notamment depuis 2006 avec la pyramide des Daft Punk illuminée de millier de Leds représentant toute sorte d’animations et d’effets lumineux pour leurs shows light. D’ailleurs, Thomas Jenkinson a repris le concept des deux robots Daftiens, avec des animations dans un casque crées avec quelques Leds en concordance avec un écran géant placé derrière l’artiste (avec des effets de perspective à la Etienne de Crecy). La forme du casque est une sorte de remix étrange des deux casques Daft Punk réuni en un seul objet. Ceci fait également penser au casque du très populaire de ‘Deadmau5′ et son masque de Cyber-Mouse intergalactique. A savoir que la société d’effets spéciaux à l’origine du casque des robots français est « Alterian » (qui s’est occupé du Film Electroma, les clips ‘Robot Rock’ et ‘Prime Time of Your Life’). Pour ce qui est de « Squarepusher », il s’agit de ‘Nick Robertson‘ qui s’est occupé du design.

A phenomenon that continues to grow in recent years, notably since 2006 with the Daft Punk pyramid illuminated by thousand LEDs representing a lot of animations and lighting effects for their light shows. Moreover, Thomas Jenkinson took over the concept of two Daft robots, with animations created in their helmet with a few LEDs in accordance with a giant screen behind the artist (with perspective effects like Etienne de Crecy). The shape of the helmet is a kind of strange remix of « Daft Punk helmets », two into one object. This also reminds the helmet of the popular ‘Deadmau5′ mask and his intergalactic Cyber​​-Mouse concept. Namely, the special effects company behind the helmet of the French robots is « Alterian » (who handled the film Electroma, the clips ‘Robot Rock’ and ‘Prime Time of Your Life’). And for « Squarepusher », it’s’ Nick Robertson who handled the design.
